My World and Welcome to It!

These are my thoughts and opinions about life in general. I also get daily prompts from DSP which inspire me to write. If I throw in some scrapbook pages I've done, photos I've taken, and stories about me, you will have an idea about my loony life!

Veteran’s Day

veteransday Blog Prompt - Today is Veterans Day in the USA. Tell me about someone in your family who was in the military or someone you know.

I have had many family members who served in the military. My father served in the Army during World War II. He likes to reminisce about his army days and we enjoy listening to them. It is interesting to hear his stories about his experiences in Italy and Africa. He never talks about the hard times but I can only imagine how hard it must have been for him as a young Chinese man who arrived in America a few years earlier. He loved America so much that he was willing to fight for our country. He still tells us how wonderful America is and that people today just don’t appreciate it as much as they should.

I always loved hearing different stories from the older Veterans.

There's this guy I know in the British Army, and he always refers to war as peace keeping mission. It is just what he believes in, building schools, securing roads, drinking with the locals, so to speak.
All he does is seeing the good in the unspeakable, making sense of it. And he lost his life over it, even though his heart is still beating, his eyes still see,his ears still hear, his weapon still fires if needs be. He still does his job, but life as he knew it ended a long, long time ago.
I don't know wether to admire or pity him, he used to bring out the best and the worst in me.
War is BS, but I am so glad there are lads like him willing to go out there and keep war away from me, my home, my world. And, maybe, eventually put an end to war altogether.
